KUALA LUMPUR: The award-winnnig Chevrolet Cruze is making its debut in Malaysia, after being successful in Europe, Australia, India and the Asean region.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the four-door sedan Thursday, barely two months after Pavilion Crest Sdn Bhd, an associate company of Naza Motors Trading Sdn Bhd, signed a distributorship agreement with General Motors South East Asia.
The car will retail at RM97,888, excluding insurance and regulatory fees, and will be available in blue, white and red colours.
The car, which has earned a five-star rating from the European and Australian new car assessment programme (Euro-NCAP and ANCAP), will be equipped with a 1.8-litre and four-cylinder power plant.
Naza Group joint group executive chairman Datuk Faisal SM Nasimuddin said the group was targetting sales of 1,000 units of the car in the country this year.
He also said that Naza would conduct a joint feasibility study with General Motors to determine the viability of establishing a manufacturing and assembly plan in Malaysia.
