NAIM Cendera bags RM40m jetty contract

AWARD-winning developer and contractor Naim Cendera Engineering Sdn Bhd has been awarded by Assar Senari Holdings Sdn Bhd a RM40 million contract to build an oil and gas jetty in Tanjung Manis, Sarawak.

The project is part of the Central Oil Distribution Terminal (CODT) which will distribute oil from Petroliam Nasional Bhd and Shell to the central region of Sarawak.

"The Oil and Gas Terminal, which cost RM110 million, and the Oil and Gas Jetty are expected to be completed by year-end and set to be fully operational by the beginning of 2011," said Assar Senari Holdings Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Syeed Mohd Hussain at the site familiarisation ceremony yesterday.

The CODT has a storage capacity of 50,000 tonnes of oil and gas.

"Once completed, CODT will distribute oil and gas to towns in the central region such as Sibu, Sarikei and Mukah. Currently oil and gas in the central region is distributed in Sibu," he said.

The two projects will be able to provide job opportunities to some 300 people, especially to the locals, during construction time.

"Upon completion of the two projects, some 80 people will be employed full-time," added Syeed Mohd.

Naim Holdings Bhd senior independent director and State Assemblyman for Belawai Datuk Hamden Ahmad urged the locals to participate in the project through getting employed and other side businesses.

"These two projects are among the mega projects which have been and will be implemented here in Tanjung Manis, which is the main shipping hub of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy," he said.

He said that with completion of road from Sibu to Tanjung Manis next year, there will be more development taking place in the area.

Also present was Naim Holdings' chief operations officer, Datuk William Wei.
