Group submits memorandum against gambling to PM

A group comprising 40 non-governmental organisations and individuals on Wednesday, June 23, submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak asking the government not to renew or approve gambling licences in the country.

The memorandum was handed over by the leader of the group called "Gerakan Rakyat Membantah Judi" (people's movement against gambling), Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, to assistant secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Nasrul Hakim Jamaludin, outside the Putra Perdana building here at 3.30pm.

Mohd Azmi said the group also demanded that the government cancel all gambling licences, including sports betting.

"We are against any form of gambling," he told reporters.

The same memorandum will also be handed over to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Negara on July 3. -- Bernama
