IRIS upping momentum towards sustaining profits

IRIS Corporation Bhd will continue to accelerate the momentum of generating sustainable profitability for 2010 and beyond, with increased emphasis on Green Technology for environment and food security.

In a statement, its Chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail said its key "green" projects in 2010 included a 600-tonne (municipal solid waste) per day Waste-to-Energy Incineration plant for the Municipality of Phuket in Thailand and a joint venture with WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd for an Integrated Biomass Power Plant in Sepang.

"Additionally, IRIS’ transportation solutions and systems for the automatic fare collection (AFC) project to be commissioned on the Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT lines for Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad, plus trusted identity solutions for a number of countries, such as the Bangladesh Machine Readable Travel Document (MRTD) project, will glean returns in 2010," he added.

He said this in unveiling the IRIS 2009 Annual Report themed, "A Journey For New Horizon" at the company's 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) here today.



Founded in 1994, IRIS is a MSC-status technology innovator and leading provider of solutions and advancements for trusted identity (electronic identity documents), transportation, logistics, business communication, environmental and food security.

The Group reported a pre-tax profit of RM30.4 million for the year-ended Dec 31, 2009 from RM15.8 million in 2008, on revenue of RM331.7 million and RM286 million respectively.

In 2009, both at home and abroad, IRIS saw sustained demand for secure digital identity solutions, made inroads into the financial industry with a variety of its business solutions and recognised revenue for the 60-tonne per day Waste-to-Energy plant in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in Bangkok, Thailand. -- BERNAMA
