Khazanah close to buying Aman Resorts

NEW DELHI: Khazanah Nasional Bhd is close to acquiring a major stake in Aman Resorts, a popular luxury hotel chain, reported the Economic Times today.

It said Khazanah was likely to spend about US$350 million (RM1.225 billion) to buy the controlling stake in Aman from DLF, India's largest real estate developer.

Aman operates about 23 luxury hotels worldwide, including in Bhutan, France, Indonesia, Morocco, Thailand and the United States.

Citing a source familiar with the negotiations, Economic Times said the deal may not include Aman's property in Delhi.

In 2007, DLF purchased a 97 per cent stake in Aman, worth US$400 million (RM1.4 billion), and Aman's founder Adrian Zecha owned the remaining stake of three per cent.

Aman was founded in 1988 and slowly grew into a popular international brand name across the globe.

Khazanah could not be reached for comment, added the paper.
