Panasonic upbeat on bigger market share

PANASONIC Malaysia (3719) expects its market share in the office communication business to increase to 60 per cent by year-end, backed by its newly-launched Internet protocol (IP)-based applications.

Panasonic's current market share in the segment stands at 56 per cent.

The company yesterday introduced five new IP-based applications under its Panasonic Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange (IP PBX) solutions that could help beef up the communication system of private and government sectors.

The five new applications are Panasonic Hotel Suite (PHS), Panasonic Home Application (PHA), Panasonic iConnect Call Centre Application (PiCC), Panasonic Centralize and Consolidated Billing Application (PCCB), and Panasonic IP Conference Phone (Model KX-NT700).

Panasonic managing director Jeff Lee said the new applications were designed to help enhance productivity of businesses in hotel, banking, property, insurance and government sectors.

"We expect that the new product line-up will be able to help us grow between 3 and 5 per cent by the end of 2010," he told reporters after the launch of the new products in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, yesterday.

Also present was Panasonic's general manager for business system Yoshiyuki Tanabe.

On the new applications, Lee said IP PBX is a telephone system that aims at delivering information in the forms of voice, video and others over the network.

The system is useful for business enterprises that need to maintain constant contact with their customers and affiliates.

IP PBX also helps companies cut down their operating expenses.

"These applications are not only cost-effective but also can enhance employee productivity while maintaining simplicity of use to cater for various user groups," he said.

Lee said Panasonic has integrated its communication and security solutions as well as visual display to make them more convenient to consumers.

"PBX is no longer a stand-alone device, but has become the backbone of an organisation's infrastructure where many applications have been added to run sophisticated applications," he said.
