AirAsia Bhd saw the number of passengers carried under its Malaysian operations rise 10.6% year-on-year (y-o-y) for the second quarter (2Q) of the year to 3.89 million from 3.52 million previously.
Operating statistics for April to June 2010 issued by the regional low-cost carrier yesterday showed that capacity improved 7.5% to 5.06 million from 4.71 million previously, while load factor rose two percentage points (ppts) to 77% from 75% y-o-y.
In a measure of the volume of passengers carried by the airline, revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose 14.6% while the airline’s passenger capacity, available seat kilometres (ASK) improved 9.1% on-year.
In a media statement yesterday, AirAsia said the number of flights flown was up 7.3% to 28,058 from 26,152 while the size of its fleet at the quarter’s end rose by three to 50.
Meanwhile, its Thai operations saw total passengers carried rising 11% y-o-y to 1.24 million, while load factor improved five ppts to 75% from 70%. Capacity rose 3.5% to 1.65 million, while its fleet size increased y-o-y by three to 20.
Its Indonesian operations on the other hand saw passenger numbers rise 9.8% to 947,786 from 863,440 in 2Q09. Load factor for Indonesia remained unchanged at 75%, while capacity rose 9% to 1.27 million from 1.16 million previously. Its fleet size had decreased by one to 15 for 2Q10.
AirAsia added seven sen yesterday to end at RM1.51 with 22.9 million shares changing hands.
