Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the government will ensure all projects and programmes under Budget 2011 will boost the country's economy.
Noting that domestic demand was on the rise, he said the government would constantly monitor the projects and programmes so that the objective to boost the economy would be achieved.
"We not only want to see the projects and programmes to be implemented in full," he told reporters after the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly today.
He was commenting on a recent call by CIMB Group Chief Executive Datuk Seri Nazir Tun Razak for the government to execute its spending plan quickly to sustain economic activities, a move which can help offset possible slowdown in the global economic recovery.
"Indeed we hope all projects and programmes that are approved within a specific period in a year like in Budget 2011, can be carried out," said Najib who is Finance Minister.
"If domestic demand is high and external demand is also high, we can achieve a high growth rate but if external demand contracts, we only rely on this domestic demand not to adversely affect domestic economy too severely."
Malaysia''s growth target is six per cent annually to achieve the status of high-income economy by 2020.
For the first quarter 2010, it recorded a 10.1 per cent growth year-on-year. - Bernama
