Iris, KAMB in RM50m sustainable agro farm project

Iris Corporation Bhd has been appointed by Koperasi Atlet Malaysia Bhd (KAMB) as the turnkey operator for the development of a RM50 million sustainable agro community project.

In a statement yesterday, Iris said the agro farm would generate employment opportunities and raise the economic status of various groups — with priority given to KAMB members, former athletes, single mothers and the physically challenged.

It said the first-of-its-kind project, located on a 100 acre-parcel (40.5ha) of land in Tanjung Tualang, Perak, would be the country’s single largest sustainable greenhouse farm. The land will be leased from the state Agriculture Development Corporation.

Iris said the project would optimise innovative technology and renewable resources, aimed at bringing about rural development and potential eco-agro tourism benefits to Tanjung Tualang.

KAMB is the business and investment arm of the National Athlete’s Charity Foundation (Yakeb) whose principal task is to manage the welfare of Malaysia’s athletes.

KAMB’s primary responsibility is to generate and enhance funds for Yakeb and also to elevate socio-economic levels of its members through profit-centred business and entrepreneurial activities.
