MALAYSIA: Govt plans to reduce subsidy in 3-5 years

The government plans to reduce subsidy in stages over three to five years, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in parliament yesterday.

He told Ab Aziz Ab Kadir (Ketereh-PKR) that the subsidised items include sugar, wheat flour, cooking oil, petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Replying to a question by Hee Loy Sian (Petaling Jaya Selatan-PKR), Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry had introduced guidelines on fast food advertising and labelling on Jan 1, 2008.

Content labels for fast food like those served by McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken were placed in packages, boxes, dish covers, brochures, pamphlets and posters. — Bernama
