Young prefer to live abroad: iProperty poll

iProperty.com Malaysia, the country's property and real estate website, has unveiled that 62 per cent of 454 respondents in an Internet poll, chose to live abroad.

The poll, which appraised public sentiment about their chosen country of residence, saw 28 per cent prefer Malaysia as their home and 10 per cent being undecided on the matter.

The website in a statement today said the young expressed the most interest in living abroad, giving more opportunities and no long term commitments, as reasons.

"The older counterparts, however, preferred to live in Malaysia because of social and financial security, a cosmopolitan lifestyle at low cost and fewer commitments," it added.

Despite the growing interest among the youth in living abroad, real estate markets appear unfazed by the issue, continuing to grow with iProperty.com seeing a 71 per cent increase in property hunters since July 2009.

"In the end, home buyers are looking for socially strong communities, with safe neighbourhood facilities and amenities where they can raise their family in a friendly environment," said iProperty group chief executive officer Shaun Di Gregario.--Bernama
