According to project director Satpal S. Bhogal, who launched the Visitors Centre, it is aimed at helping engage the public by providing accurate information and updates on the KVMRT project.
“We receive an average of five to six group visit requests per month and we would like to accommodate their interest in wanting to learn about the project and its progress,” he said.
However, he added that due to site constraints and for safety reasons, visits are restricted.
To address this, the Visitors Centre was set up to allow for an easier flow of information.
“As the tunnelling work done is still new to Malaysia, this centre will also serve as a platform to share information on the high-precision engineering and technology used for the project,” Satpal added.
A visit to the centre will include a comprehensive briefing on the project followed by an audio-visual presentation including a touch-screen interactive media panel which allows visitors to browse for information on the KVMRT alignment.
On the progress of the project, Satpal said: “It is proceeding according to schedule, but it is still early days yet.”
Also present during the launch was project manager Gustav Klados and deputy project manager III (Construction) Ubull Din Om.
The Visitors Centre is open for group visits through prior appointments only.
It is located within the tunnelling site office at Jalan Laksamana, off Jalan Cochrane, Cheras from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
