RON 97 petrol to cost 15 sen more per litre

PETALING JAYA: The price per litre of RON 97 petrol will be raised by RM0.15 starting midnight Wednesday, bringing its price to RM2.85, up from RM2.70 previously.

This was confirmed by the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hashim Othman, who refused to comment further on the matter until an official announcement was made by the government.

This sentiment was reciprocated by Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hassan Malek.

“Seems you know more about it than me. I can’t confirm or deny. Just wait for the announcement,” he said to The Star.

On March 2013, the price of RON 97 was raised by RM0.20 but was subsequently cut down by the same amount in May.

The price of the petrol peaked at RM3 per litre in September 2012.

On Sunday, the government raised the price of RON 95 petrol and diesel by RM0.20 in a move to reduce the fiscal deficit by saving RM1.1bil per year.

The new prices per litre of RON 95 petrol and diesel are RM2.10 and RM2.00 respectively.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said despite the increase, the government would still be subsidising 63 sen for each litre of RON 95 petrol.
