U Mobile appoints new CEO

U Mobile Sdn Bhd has appointed Dr Kaizad B Heerjee as its new CEO, taking over from Kenneth Chang who will continue to serve as a board member and a member of the company’s executive committee.

In a statement yesterday, U Mobile said prior to the appointment, Kaizad worked at PT Indosat Tbk , Indonesia’s second-largest mobile service provider, as deputy president director from December 2005 to 2008 and more recently, as a director and chief commercial officer from 2008 to 2010.

U Mobile said during his tenure at Indosat, Kaizad was instrumental in the company’s successful bid for the coveted 3G and WiMAX licences.

“Under his leadership, Indosat’s cellular subscriber base grew by almost 400% to over 39 million, and the company cemented its position as a market leader in mobile broadband services,” it said.

“Although I’m acutely aware of the challenges the company faces today, I’m energised by the tremendous growth potentials of the company and the telecommunication market in Malaysia,” said Kaizad.

U Mobile chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan said Kaizad’s extensive international experience in companies operating at different stages of telecommunications development would greatly benefit U Mobile.
