UK’s CWW secures Axiata contract

KUALA LUMPUR: London-listed Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW) has won a new deal from Axiata Group Bhd to support the latter’s growing Internet protocol capacity needs in Asia Pacific.

Under a two-year agreement, CWW will build and manage a new Internet Protocol-based network in Singapore for four of Axiata’s operating companies. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

According to CWW’s statement posted on its website yesterday, the companies in the Axiata group are Celcom Axiata Bhd, PT XL Axiata Tbk, Dialog Telekom PLC and Hello Axiata Co Ltd in Cambodia.

“The company will deliver global standardisation and harmonisation of infrastructure and offer Axiata services which are reliable, functional and easy to manage,” CWW said.

In the UK, CWW owns the country’s largest fibre network dedicated to business users of telecoms reaching 20,500km in length, and providing ubiquitous UK access through a combination of fibre, digital, microwave, radio and leased circuits. CWW is present in more than 400 towns and cities in the UK, with 802 unbundled exchanges covering 55% of the population.
